Stuart and Ian Paton behind the UK’s record breaking heaviest pumpkin

The new UK champions, Stuart and Ian Paton of Lymington, Hampshire standing behind their heaviest pumpkin yet weighing in at a whopping 1,884 lbs.
They beat the existing UK champion by over 300lbs to regain the title they last held in 2012 but in 2011 this would have been enough to be a world champion, the current size of which stands at 2323 lbs, grown by a Swissman.
Growing giant pumpkins is a global sport and great fun. Each year the twins take their pumpkin to be weighed at the annual charity event held at Netley, near Southampton in support in aid of the charity, The Jubilee Sailing Trust.
The Annual Pumpkin Festival raises money for the trust whose mission is to promote the integration of people of all physical abilities through the challenge and adventure of tall ship sailing aboard two very special ships, Lord Nelson and Tenacious.
This is a hobby and the Stuart and Ian’s day job is as commercial growers in the family business as the third largest European potted lilly growers supplying a lot of high street retailers and garden centres throughout the UK together with a detailed breeding programme too. Right now though, they are knee deep in over 120,000 poinsettias growing for Christmas.
Stuart and Ian’s pumpkin is the 15th heaviest pumpkin in the world this year and should you want to join in the fourth Annual World Pumpkin Cruise departs Fort Lauderdale on 1st March 2015 when you can join all your pumpkin friends and discuss pumpkins 24/7. Details are available
